A serious accident can result in major expenses for your family

Family Protection Plan offers death and disability cover as a result of an accident for the insured and whole family.  The Plan pays half the benefit upfront with the remaining balance paid in 3 equal instalments  into the account of the beneficiary for a period of 3 years. Permanent total loss is covered for:

o   Amputation of an arm, leg, hand, foot; or toes; or

o   Permanent and total loss of USE of an arm, leg, hand, foot, fingers or toes; or

o   Permanent loss of sight, hearing or speech.

The AIG Family Protection Plan is available for anyone between the ages of 18 and 65 years.

The AIG Family Protection Plan has various options available to suit your needs. You can get cover for yourself, or for your whole family, which covers you, your spouse and up to five children.

The AIG Family Protection Plan is cover for accidental death and accidental permanent disability and does not cover natural death or illness related disability.

The AIG family Protection Plan covers accidental death and permanent disability. On receipt of the required documentation and successful claims, AIG will pay you an immediate lump sum following an insured incident and then three annual payments thereafter.

Cover for the AIG Family Protection Plan will cease at age 85. Also the date we pay the maximum benefit

 
 

The AIG Family Protection Plan will not cover death and disability due to Chronic Illness. The policy only covers accidental death or disability

With the AIG Family Protection Plan there are no medical questions or tests required. No HIV test is required.

With the AIG Family Protection Plan, your cover starts as soon as we receive your first premium

We will need to get a medical certificate from the doctor confirming that your husband is, notwithstanding his inability to speak, otherwise of sound mind and remains capable of making informed decisions.

Your husband must then provide us with a letter confirming that he is willing to take up the policy and that he agrees that you, his wife, will intermediate between the company and himself on the terms and conditions applicable.

The amount payable in respect of Death of Children will be limited to R10,000.

For Disability children who are covered by the policy will receive 25% of the benefit.

Accidental death or disability will not be covered in the following circumstances 

  • Being on active duty or in training for a government or private organization as a soldier, police, traffic or security office or reservist.
  • Accidental death from an event you took part in will not be covered should you have more than the legal limit of alcohol in your blood;
  • Children who are 18 years and over and are not registered as full time students will not be covered for accidental death; 
  • Death by suicide will not be covered; 
  • Accidental death when working underground will not be covered;

The Permanent Total Disability cover will not be payable should the insured person not be employed at the date of the accident. Full details will be made available in the policy wording.

Only one Spouse will be eligible for cover under the AIG Family Protection Plan.  Should you have more than one spouse, you will need to select the spouse eligible for cover. Spouse means the husband, wife or any de facto partner with whom you have permanently and continuously lived in the same household in a relationship which is not casual or impermanent and as if he or she were your lawful spouse.

Child/Children means: 

  • any natural children,
  • lawfully adopted children,
  • step children by marriage, 
  • foster children who have in terms of the provisions of any legislation relative to the protection of children been placed in the custody of the Policyholder as foster children,  or any children who are living with the Policyholder in the same household in a relationship which is not casual or impermanent and as if they were the lawful children of the policyholder, who are over the ages of 6 months and under 18 years of age (or under 25 years of age  and are full-time students at an accredited institution for higher learning, not pregnant, unmarried and primarily dependent on You for maintenance and support.

Yes, lawfully adopted children can be covered.

We will require your spouse’s full name, surname and identity number.

You can nominate any beneficiary you wish as long as they are a South African resident.

The AIG Family Protection Plan is not a funeral plan.  It covers accidental death and disability and the benefit is paid out in cash. This means that you can use the money for whatever you or your family need, be it life’s daily necessities or school fees.

You or your nominated beneficiaries will be paid out a lump sum immediately following the accident.  This will be followed by 3 annual payments in January thereafter.

If you die or are disabled as a result of a crime, your Family can receive an additional R100,000 lump sum for only an additional R20 per month.

Exclusions

Our Family Protection Plan is highly comprehensive and is guaranteed to provide for your family in unforeseen circumstances such as accidental death and disability.

 

The policy will however not cover you in the following instances:

  • Bodily injury or physical trauma caused by, traceable to, prolonged by or otherwise affected by any physical defect, infirmity or medical condition existing prior to the Effective Date of this Policy.
  • Any criminal or illegal act that you commit.
  • Driving a vehicle with more than the legal limit of alcohol in your blood/breath.
  • Being under the influence of drugs or narcotics, unless a medical doctor has prescribed or given these drugs or narcotics to you.
  • Self-inflicted injury, suicide, or attempted suicide.
  • Wilful neglect or failure to get, and follow, medical advice or treatment for an insured event.
  • On active duty, or in training, for a government or any private organisation as a soldier, police, traffic or security officer, or reservist.
  • Taking part in, or training for, a sport professionally (see definition of professional sports 
  • Working underground.
  • Working with explosives.
  • Any air travel, except as a passenger on a legally licensed commercial aircraft. We do not regard a crew member as a passenger.
  • Children, pensioners and homemakers are excluded from the permanent total disablement cover.

Road Cover

  • In the event of a motor vehicle accident in which you are injured, your membership of Road Cover entitles you to the following:
    • Telephonic assistance and advice with regard to what is necessary to prepare a claim for presentation to the R.A.F. (Road Accident Fund).
    • Arrange for an initial assessment if required with a qualified and experienced RC assessor
    • All Legal reports and assessments
    • All medico-legal assessments and reports
    • Case management of the claim
    • All administration required for the presentation of a”bona fide“claim as determined and arranged by Road Cover.

Premiums do not include an admin fee.
