Pre-Existing Medical Conditions means any condition giving rise to a claim for which, within the 12 consecutive months prior to the Effective Date of Coverage, the Insured Person, Relative or Business Associate:

  • Has consulted a Medical Practitioner or specialist; or
  • Has received Medical Treatment or advice; or
  • The manifestation of symptoms would have caused a reasonable person to seek advice.

It also includes any condition known to the Insured Person, Relative or Business Associate prior to the Effective Date of Coverage

  • Where the Insured Person, Relative or Business Associate:
  • Is on the waiting list for Medical Treatment; or
  • Is travelling for the purpose of obtaining Medical Treatment (even if this is not the sole reason for the Insured Journey); or
  • Has received a terminal prognosis; or
  • Has been recommended to continue or to commence any Medical Treatment or medication after the Effective Date of Coverage

When a client has consulted a doctor, received medical treatment or advice for the condition within 12 months prior to taking out the travel insurance.

Cancellation & Curtailment is effective the day after the date of purchase of the insurance policy (for the Leisure and Business products) and on the date of purchase for the credit card programs; the balance of the travel cover is effective when you pass through passport control.

Real expense means the actual expenses occurred up to the accumulation limit on the policy.

Emigration is not covered on our credit card programs.  On our Leisure and Business products the client will receive cover for emergency medical and related expenses for 30 consecutive days after arrival in their new country of residence.  This is only applicable to any Emergency Medical and Related expenses claim that would normally have been paid by a medical aid company had such an event taken place in South Africa.

We now offer a limited natural disaster benefit on certain plans which will reimburse the client for the cost of providing other similar accommodation if his booked accommodation cannot be lived in because of a fire, flood, earthquake or storm and/or the additional costs for changing his means of public transport
